Conan O’Brien closed out the 2026 Oscars with a sketch that spoofed One Battle After Another, which won Best Picture on the night. In the bit, an Academy official walks up to Conan after the show and tells him, “Great show Conan. Just terrific. We liked it so much, we’ve decided to make you Oscars host for life.” He then gets taken to a room called Suite 55 with his name on the door and the words “Host for Life” under it. Conan sits down, puts his feet up, and then gets gassed. They wheel him out in his chair and incinerate him.
After that, the sign on the door changes. Conan’s name gets replaced with “Mr. Beast – Host for Life.” MrBeast saw it and posted a picture of the sign on X almost immediately. But no, he is not actually hosting next year. The whole thing was a parody of the scene in One Battle After Another where Sean Penn’s character, Colonel Lockjaw, gets invited into an organization and then gets poisoned in the exact same room. Suite 55. Same method. Jim Downey played the guy escorting both victims in the sketch and in the movie.
The Joke Might Not Be That Far Off Since The Oscars Are Moving To YouTube In 2029
The MrBeast part was obviously a gag, but there is a reason it landed the way it did. The Academy Awards announced a deal to stream the ceremony exclusively on YouTube starting in 2029. So a YouTuber hosting the Oscars is not as ridiculous as it sounds anymore.
Nobody from the Academy has said anything about MrBeast actually being considered for the job, and there is no confirmation of any kind. But the fact that the show is going to be on his platform in 3 years makes the joke hit differently than it would have a few years ago.
Conan hosted the Oscars for the second year in a row after taking over from Jimmy Kimmel. He opened the 2026 show with a different sketch where he spoofed Weapons and played a character called Aunt Gladys who gets chased by kids through scenes from a bunch of the nominated movies.
One Battle After Another and Sinners ended up being the biggest winners on the night. Sean Penn did not attend the ceremony despite his movie winning Best Picture.
There Were A Few Controversies At The 2026 Oscars
There was other stuff going on at the ceremony, too, outside of the sketches. Kpop Demon Hunters was involved in some kind of controversy during the night, though the details on that are still being sorted out.
And the In Memoriam segment left out James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane, which did not go over well at all. People on X were going after the Academy for that one pretty hard. On top of all of that, there were also complaints about trash being left behind by attendees after the event.

As of now Conan is still the Oscars host and there is zero indication that is changing. The MrBeast thing was a joke inside a parody inside a Best Picture spoof. But MrBeast clearly got a kick out of it based on how fast he put that sign on X. Whether the Academy would ever actually ask him to host once the show moves to YouTube is a different question entirely and nobody has an answer for that one.
