YouTube Superstar MrBeast Claims He’s Actually In Debt And “Borrowing Money” For His Bank Account

MrBeast, or Jimmy Donaldson, recently revealed an aspect of his personal finances that has surprised both media and fans. Despite having an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion, MrBeast claims he often has to “borrow money” to help manage his day-to-day expenses.

As a result, there are times when he doesn’t even have enough money in his bank account to purchase food from McDonald’s. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, MrBeast discussed his views on money and wealth. He stated that although he runs a multi-billion-dollar empire that generates approximately $5 billion in yearly revenue, he does not view himself as wealthy, and that most of his wealth is tied up in the business itself.

Despite owning more than half of Beast Industries, MrBeast explained that the majority of his wealth is tied up in the assets of his company and not in cash that he can spend. “When you take into account the equity value of my company, technically speaking, everyone watching this video has more money than I do in the bank, because the equity value is not going to buy me a McDonald’s breakfast this morning,” Donaldson noted.

MrBeast keeps under $1 million in personal cash and invests everything else back into his various businesses. He even joked on social media that he had to borrow money from his mother for his upcoming wedding, pointing out how far apart paper wealth and liquid funds can be.

Mr. Beast is not only a creator, but he also represents a successful serial entrepreneur. The following are some of Mr. Beast’s business ventures:

  • Beast Industries ($5 Billion) – A holding company that owns all of MrBeast’s media and business projects.
  • Feastables – A global chocolate brand and snack company, selling several types of chocolate bars and snacks.
  • MrBeast Burger – A virtual restaurant chain that only serves delivery and pickup orders.
  • Lunchly – A packaged food product that is similar to Lunchables.
  • MrBeast LLC – The production company that creates MrBeast’s high-budget viral videos.

According to Donaldson, who earned $85 million from being a creator between April 2024 and April 2025, he is primarily focused on building MrBeast as a business instead of living a luxurious lifestyle. “I just wake up and work. I’m just so busy building the business and making the greatest videos possible,” he explained.

MrBeast exemplifies the trend of some of today’s billionaires who often feel cash-poor despite their enormous net worths. These individuals tend to aggressively reinvest the profits they earn into growing their businesses rather than creating or utilizing their own personal liquid assets.

Backlash and Creative Scrutiny

Although MrBeast’s business has been booming, many of his creative projects aren’t so lucky. The backlash from fans over random eliminations after a trust-based challenge in Episode 2 of ‘Beast Games‘ is one recent example of this.

Many fans have referred to the show as being creatively “bankrupt” because of how the show failed to present a true competition to the competitors. Nonetheless, the series continues as the top show on Amazon Prime Video in the United States, illustrating that even leading creators can be subject to criticism.
