The White House is again facing massive backlash, but this time gaming community has also jumped in. Recently, they shared a video for military strikes on Iran featuring gameplay footage from ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.‘
The 66-second clip has been widely criticized on social media for a lack of professionalism and its “cringeworthy” attempt to “gamify” actual warfare. The video was shared on X as the United States and Israel’s “Operation Epic Fury” intensifies. The military strikes were launched on February 28 to disrupt Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
‘Call of Duty’ franchise Developer Exposes Activision’s Past Pressure

After the clip went viral, co-founder of Infinity Ward and one of the original developers of the ‘Call of Duty‘ franchise, Chance Glasco, made a big revelation. Glasco took to social media and stated that Activision had pressured the studio to create a game specifically focused on an Iranian invasion of Israel years ago. However, this request was rejected by the development team, which claimed it was “disgusting.”

This revelation added fuel to the fire. Many pointed out President Trump’s hypocrisy as he blamed video games for real-world violence, and now White House is using of such such clips for unclassified military footage.
This is not the first time the Trump administration has used visuals from video games. They previously used clips from ‘Minecraft‘ and ‘Halo‘ too. However, games’ owner, Microsoft, refrained from commenting on such use of their clips.
Middle East Conflict Is Heating Up

President Trump reasoned that the strikes on Iran are an effort to “annihilate” threats to American security. According to reports, Operation Epic Fury has already resulted in over 1,200 casualties. The strikes were reportedly triggered by the failure of nuclear talks in Switzerland and the administration’s belief that Iran had restarted its long-range missile research.
In the response, Iran is also not backing down and has challenged the US and Israel back. They have already struck many of the US strategic locations in middle east. After the death of their supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran has decentralized their military operations and practicing guerilla warfare.

Despite the sensitive situation and the reported deaths of U.S. service personnel in the conflict, the administration’s use of a video game clip for PR has not been in good taste. As the Senate prepares to vote on reclaiming authority under the War Powers Act, the debate over this “forever war” and how it is being communicated to the public continues to escalate.
