Rockstar Games has taken down several user-created missions in ‘Grand Theft Auto Online‘ that recreated the killing of late Charlie Kirk, an American Conservative activist. The mission entitled “We Are Charlie Kirk” provided players with sniper rifles situated on rooftops to shoot at a character designed after Kirk from a campus resembling Utah Valley University, where the real-life shooting took place in September of 2025.
Rockstar Games is known for its bold nature; however, this is not something they can encourage. After the mission got the attention, devs were quick to act and remove the mission altogether.
Rockstar Adds Charlie Kirk User-Created Profanity Filter In ‘GTA Online’

As a result of multiple user-created missions featuring the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Rockstar has added him to its user-created profanity filter. The filter has been used to filter profanity and offensive words from user-generated content, but now it is also used to filter out references to real-world events, specifically those involving extreme violence or sensitivity.

Charlie Kirk, 31, co-founder of Turning Point USA, has prominently contributed to conservative activism around the country. Kirk’s passing at Utah Valley University resulted in national discussion, with much online commentary and political discourse regarding Kirk’s life and legacy. Comments made by high-profile individuals such as Jimmy Kimmel were criticized. Many men and women were suspended or terminated from their positions because of their social media commentary on this event.
Rockstar Mission Creator Needs More Regulations

In December, with the winter DLC, Rockstar Games introduced mission creator, letting players design missions as they like. Using this, a player created a mission that depicted Kirk’s assassination, which created more controversy, and Rockstar Games responded to this content being publicly accessible in light of a recent real-life tragedy.

While the prohibition is in place, some users still attempted to get around it by misspelling his name, using different spellings, or using other languages. Rockstar continues to monitor and delete any inappropriate user-created missions that appear, demonstrating how difficult it is for developers to keep up with all the user-generated content in the most popular video game franchises.
