With the latest ‘Overwatch‘ update, Blizzard introduced far more than just new gameplay content, hero updates, and story content to the game; the Conquest event has also added a new level of progression based on the Talon vs Overwatch battle, which many people found confusing to use initially. One of the newest features being talked about is the Prestige Pass.
Blizzard has given players who are having server issues during the launch week of the event additional rewards in the form of Prestige Passes, causing a lot of buzz throughout the community about what the Prestige Pass really is and why it matters. Let’s take a look at how to earn the Prestige Pass as well as how it works and why it exists.
Prestige Pass In ‘Overwatch’ Explained
The Prestige Pass is an additional track of rewards that can be earned after completing your faction’s pass with the completion of the Conquest event. The Conquest event allows players to select one of two factions.
- Talon
- Overwatch
As you play during the Conquest event, you will complete daily and weekly challenges for your selected faction, which earn you points to spend on event-specific cosmetics (voice lines, icons, titles, and weapon charms).
Once you have completed all the rewards in your faction pass, you will have two choices to make: first, you can switch to the other faction to start your rewards pass for that faction, or you can declare your loyalty to your chosen faction and access the Prestige Pass.
The Prestige Pass continues your progression in the game after you have completed all the main event rewards, but instead of earning cosmetics, you will earn loot boxes.

Blizzard created the Prestige Pass to encourage more play after finishing an event. Without the Prestige Pass, players tend to finish event rewards and then stop playing completely. The Prestige Pass lets players continue playing and to earn rewards by completing additional tasks.
Players earn the biggest reward (loyalty bonus) when they play on the same faction for an extended period of time. As players earn loyalty bonuses, their time spent in match play will also give them a greater value for their time played.
Difference Between Battle Pass, Faction Pass and Prestige Pass
- Battle Pass: Progression is season long and contains new skins, cosmetics etc.
- Faction Pass: Available for a limited time, rewards earned through an event.
- Prestige Pass: Available only after a season has concluded, and are additional rewards earned through playing after the end of the event.
Prestige Pass does not require a payment to access nor is it considered an upgrade or premium item. It is simply a way to earn loot boxes after the event has ended.
Prestige Pass Rewards
Every Prestige Pass awards loot boxes instead of the cosmetic items unique to each pass.
- 4 Standard Loot Boxes
- 1 Epic or Legendary Loot Box
When Blizzard indicates that players have been compensated with Prestige Passes, they are essentially referring to F2P loot boxes gained through continued progression.
Players can keep obtaining items by continuing to play after they have completed their faction rewards, thereby creating a continual grind of rewards from the event. Many players experienced issues due to early server problems during the event and, as a result, Blizzard has provided players who were eligible to receive additional rewards for their trouble:
- 12 Base Loot Boxes
- 1 Epic Loot Box
- 1 Legendary Loot Box
- Voice lines and titles
- Weapon charm and namecard
- 2 Prestige Passes
Though the above rewards are additional earnings, players will still retain any and all of their previously earned items/loot
How To Unlock the Prestige Pass?
The Prestige Pass can be unlocked easily and requires no purchase. To unlock the Prestige Pass, complete the following steps:
- Choose either Talon or Overwatch as your faction
- Complete the event-specific challenges
- Complete all faction-related rewards
- Earn event points by completing job-specific challenges
- Compete for a chance to progress through the prestige tier levels

Once you finish all the main factions’ tracks, your Prestige Pass will automatically activate. You do not have to unlock a separate menu or purchase anything to use the pass.
