Overwatch Axed Clash Game Mode Ahead Of Reign Of Talon Season 1

Blizzard just rebranded their hero shooter back to ‘Overwatch‘ and dropped the ‘2’. This change comes with loads of new content for the game, from new heroes to new game modes. However, with new things coming to ‘Overwatch,‘ some things are leaving, too.

Overwatch is now officially removing Clash, a core game mode, from its Quick Play map rotation. This is yet another piece of news that has shocked the player base, along with all the big plans revealed by Blizzard during the Overwatch Spotlight event held recently.

The Spotlight event was a massive success, and it seems like Blizzard is going hard on anything that is “not working” for the game. And the first one to get axed on the list is Clash. The game mode, which was only playable in Quick Play map rotation, is now leaving the map pool.

Clash will now be only available to play in Customs. This means that the maps: Hanaoka & Throne of Anubis are going to no longer be available in the Quick Play map pool. Director Alec Dawson said that they’ll be “sticking with what’s working currently and refining what we have.”

Although many players are shocked, some regard this change as normal, considering the cursed lifecycle of this game mode. This change will go live on February 10, with the launch of ‘Overwatch‘ Season 1 Reigns of Talon.

‘Overwatch 2’ Clash Was Destined For Failure

The Clash game was launched in Season 12 of ‘Overwatch 2,‘ inspired by the game’s original Two-point capture match type. This mode was meant for players to have rapid gameplay changes between offense & defense. However, the player base had negative sentiment regarding this mode.

After the mode’s failure, it was removed from the Standard Ranked map pool in Season 15 and was only available to play in Quick Play. And then in season 16, after being heavily reworked and renamed to “Stadium,” it became its own separate gamemode, with a separate ranking system.

Although it’s not like Stadium has received any major updates during the past year, it’s still going to be part of the core game modes. So, players can this year look forward to Stadium updates.
