Minecraft Faces Major Backlash For Good Trouble DLC Being Too “Political”

Minecraft‘ has just launched a really ambitious update as an educational update about racial segregation and various justice & rights movements. The “Good Trouble” DLC has just gone live on the ‘Minecraft‘ Market to download, for free. However, the playerbase is not so happy with the game becoming ‘political’.

Minecraft‘ usually releases such DLCs that teaches kids & students about many different topics, on many different subjects. From STEM subjects to Arts & History, ‘Minecraft‘ DLCs have a lot of educational content. But this DLC is getting quite the hate from the game’s playerbase.

‘Minecraft’ Is Under Fire For Good Trouble DLC

‘The Good Trouble DLC features many famous activists and popular Human Rights moments. The game hoped for kids to get immersive knowledge regarding famous human rights movements throughout our history. From Gandhi’s non-aggression movements for India’s freedom to Nelson Mandela’s fight against Apartheid.

However, the playerbase is not really happy with this update, and the DLC is getting called out for its political viewpoint. Players are accusing ‘Minecraft‘ of encouraging violence. This update comes at the time of Black History Month and amidst the anti-ICE protests in the US.

You can see Black Lives Matter references and a link to their website in gameplay videos posted online. Moreover, players are also voicing their concerns over the lack of ICE related content in this new update, calling it a “Political Propaganda”.

Part of their educational update, ‘Minecraft‘ released the “Lessons in Good Trouble” DLC, which is free on ‘Minecraft‘ Marketplace right now! This DLC features the major Civil Rights movement, from the United States to foreign countries. This DLC gives players a deep look into how these popular figures inspired change in their country and world history.

The term “Good Trouble” was coined by John Lewis, who’s also featured in this DLC. The major figures in this DLC are:

  • Malala Yousafzai
  • Nelson Mandela
  • Rosa Park
  • Mahatma Gandhi
  • Emmeline Pankhurst
  • John Lewis

This DLC has come out during Black History Month as an educational look at things through games. However, the player base has conflicting thoughts about this DLC, which we have already explored above. ‘Minecraft‘ has yet to address the grievance officially, but updates may come to this DLC soon, and more content may be added. Or removed, it can go any way.
