Hogwarts Legacy: Who Is Professor Matilda Weasley?

In ‘Hogwarts Legacy,‘ few characters leave an impact as quickly as Professor Matilda Weasley. Calm, authoritative, and deeply principled, she serves as Hogwarts’ Deputy Headmistress and Professor of Transfiguration during the 1890s.

Professor Weasley is more than just a member of the faculty. To a fifth-year student who arrives at Hogwarts too late to make friends and adapt to life at school, she is a source of support and guidance during their transition to their new home. Matilda was shaping the future of the Wizarding World within the castle long before Ron and his family became famous with their surname.

Professor Matilda Weasley is the Deputy Headmistress, working under Phineas Nigellus Black, who is renowned for being more egotistical than empathetic. The Deputy is more nurturing and encouraging towards her students, creating a more welcoming and friendly environment in the school than Black does.

The Deputy Headmistress also teaches Transfiguration at Hogwarts, and she takes her subject very seriously. Her expectations for her students are high, and she maintains a good balance of being strict and supportive.

When the player joins the school as a 5th year, she outlines a strict plan to help them catch up on their studies, creates a number of additional assignments for them, and enlists the help of the other faculty members to assist the player in achieving accelerated progress in their studies.

Matilda Weasley was born to the Weasley family prior to 1873 and was a student at Hogwarts, sorted into the Gryffindor House just like the rest of her family. Even as a child, she was known to be a witch of great talent.

In her second year at Hogwarts, she met an elf named Deek, and together, they found the Room of Requirement, which would eventually play an important role in her teaching of the player decades later when she shows them the same room and helps them to find a bag that she lost while at Hogwarts.

Ministry Of Magic And Curse-Breaker Career

Matilda began her career as a Curse Breaker for the British Ministry of Magic after graduating. It was her responsibility to neutralize dangerous magical spells and artifacts, which she did with excellent precision and composure under pressure; this, in turn, quickly established her name as one who could produce extraordinary wand work.

One of the many benefits of being a Curse Breaker with the British Ministry of Magic was that she was able to form international relationships, including a close friendship with Chiyo Kogawa from the Japanese Ministry of Magic, and she rapidly advanced through the ministry due to her work ethic, which soon gave her influence beyond Britain.

Life As A Freelance Curse-Breaker

At one point in her career, Matilda chose to leave the ministry to travel the world with Paul, another wizard and her romantic partner, in their freelance curse-breaking partnership. While their work together was successful, Matilda was beginning to want more of the stability, family, and a sense of community and purpose that rooted her.

Whereas Paul was more inclined toward a perpetual and nomadic lifestyle, which is when Matilda made the decision to return to Britain alone and leave behind her adventurous lifestyle in favor of someone who could provide her with the security and belonging that she desired.

Return To Hogwarts And Rise To Deputy Headmistress

The year was 1889, after years of work at the Ministry of Magic, Matilda had been invited to return to Hogwarts as the new Professor of Transfiguration. Her exceptional knowledge and experience in leading groups of people allowed her to quickly establish herself amongst the staff of Hogwarts, and she would soon be promoted to the role of Deputy Headmistress.

She was responsible for recruiting many of the new professors, including Chiyo Kogawa and Mudiwa Onai, and although she was second in command at Hogwarts, she remained very hands-on with all of the Hogwarts staff and was even known to help supervise her nephew, Garreth Weasley, much to his embarrassment.

Professor Weasley is the players’ main academic guide through the 1890 to 1891 School Year. Not only does she help you with the acceptance letters students receive when they enroll, but she is also responsible for overseeing the sorting ceremony, providing you with the Wizard’s Field Guide, and introducing you to the Room of Requirement.

During the Great Battle of Hogwarts, she fights alongside the staff and students of Hogwarts and later delivers a poignant eulogy for Professor Fig. Professor Weasley’s leadership, kindness, and strong moral compass make her one of the most grounded characters in all of Hogwarts: Legacy.

Is Professor Matilda Weasley Related To Ron Weasley?

While both of the Weasley families share a blood relationship through their bloodline, Matilda Weasley is Ron’s great-great-great-great-grandmother, and there may be a 4 generations difference between the two families.

Although she did not have children of her own, her character traits of compassion, generosity, and loyalty have clearly survived through the many generations that followed her and are evident in the current day Weasley Family. The significance of Matilda Weasley is that she is the soul of the game. She has demonstrated that strength does not equal Barbarism and Authority does not equal Arrogance.
