Recently, a LinkedIn profile has sparked speculations that Cory Barlog’s long-rumored next project is actually another ‘God of War‘ title. Barlog earlier handed the ‘God of War Ragnarök’ to Eric Williams. It was rumored that he was working on a mysterious project at Santa Monica Studio for years.
It was suggested that the project would be set in a sci-fi setting. However, the recent leaks have pointed toward a “new franchise” within the existing universe with a different protagonist altogether.
Faye Could Take The Centre Stage In Next ‘God Of War’
The speculations started when a senior writer mentioned on LinkedIn that they “helped shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP.”
According to popular insider NateTheHate, the new game will feature Faye as the lead character and is currently slated for a reveal this year with a launch window in the first half of 2027. Furthermore, the gameplay will be more action-heavy compared to the last 2 instalments.

Faye’s Role In ‘God Of War’ Spin-off
In the 2018 reboot, Faye’s death basically started the whole father-son journey as Kratos and Atreus set out to spread her ashes. It was later revealed that she was a Laufey, a frost Giant from Jötunheim. Players further explored her character through dream sequences and flashbacks. It was also revealed that she fought Thor to a standstill in Vanaheim.

If the rumors of a game featuring Faye as the main character are true, there’s a strong chance that it will be a prequel to the previous games. This means that players learn more about Faye as the legendary warrior of Jotunheim, wielding the Leviathan Axe against the gods long before she met Kratos. Such a shift would provide a completely different perspective on the mythology that fans have spent the last several years exploring.
