Fortnite’s Save The World Mode May Finally Be Getting A Major Rework

Fortnite‘s original PvE mode, Save the World, has been mostly ignored by Epic Games for years, but that could be changing. Leaker HYPEX has said he believes an update to the mode is on the way, and Shiina has backed that up separately.

Epic has not confirmed anything officially. However, their social media accounts have started doing things that are hard to write off as a coincidence. The official ‘Fortnite‘ YouTube channel used Save the World’s original soundtrack in a recent video, and the game’s social profiles swapped their icons to the old Save the World branding from before Battle Royale took over.

Multiple Signs Suggest Epic Is Quietly Preparing A Save The World Overhaul

Save the World was what ‘Fortnite‘ originally launched as before the battle royale pivot happened. The mode is still in the game, but Epic stopped putting real resources into it a long time ago. It is currently a paid mode, and players who bought Founders packs before 2020 still have access to exclusive V-Buck missions that are locked off for everyone else.

The social media activity is what started the speculation. Putting Save the World’s soundtrack in a new YouTube video is not something that happens by accident. Epic has done this kind of thing before with upcoming content, dropping small hints through icon changes or audio before making a formal announcement.

A few months ago, Epic also went in and updated Save the World’s matchmaking system. That one could be explained away since ‘Fortnite‘ matchmaking has been a mess for a while now, but when you put it next to the social media stuff, it starts to look like more than just maintenance.

What the actual update involves is still up in the air. The free-to-play switch is the most talked about possibility, but nobody knows yet if Epic is planning to add new content to the mode, rework the PvE gameplay, or do something else entirely.

There has also been zero information about what happens to Founders and their V-Buck access if the mode opens up to everyone. That is going to be a sore point for a lot of long-time players who paid money for something that might suddenly become free.

Chapter 7 Season 2 Arrives On March 19 But The Save The World Changes Probably Are Not Part Of It

Fortnite‘s next update is Chapter 7 Season 2, dropping March 19. The Save the World changes are almost certainly not going to be bundled with that. Epic usually rolls out mode-level changes on its own schedule, separate from the big seasonal drops, so the STW rework would come later.

The real test is going to be whether Epic treats this as an actual content push or just flips the mode to free and calls it a day. Players who supported Save the World before ‘Fortnite‘ became what it is today have been waiting for years for Epic to do something with the mode. If the Founders who paid for access do not get something meaningful in return, the backlash is going to write itself.
