Fortnite Chapter 7: How To Survive New Square Storm Zones?

‘Fortnite’ introduced new square or rectangular storm zones that have completely shaken up the pacing of the game. It has forced players to abandon traditional mid-range strategies, favoring a more high-intensity playstyle.

These uniquely shaped zones make the battlefield feel incredibly small and congested, even when the storm covers a large physical distance on the map. To successfully combat these matches, you must adapt your loadout, map awareness, and positioning to handle the fast-paced duels against other players.

Dominate The New Rectangular Storm Zones In ‘Fortnite’

The initial stages of a rectangular zone often times feel very small. These can be way more punishing than the standard circular storm. Additionally, it is easy to find yourself on the opposite side of the island from the first zone spawn. However, it takes a different level of early-game awareness to avoid getting caught deep in the storm.

Because these zones can pull drastically from one skinny edge to the other, moving you from a location like Riptides all the way to the desert in a single shift, players have to keep the timer on check constantly. Also, make sure players have items like Shockwave Grenades or have a vehicle to survive these storm zones.

In the later stages, the storm narrows into a much thinner rectangle, negating long-range duels. In such a closely packed zone, players can expect enemies to be either right on top of them or far beyond their line of sight. To survive this, players have to pivot to an aggressive loadout, ideal for close-range duels. Players can go with Hollow Rush SMG or the Flex SMG, which provides an upper hand as these weapons can shred through enemies in close-range fights.

Avoid Getting Third-Partied In Square Storm Zones

It is very easy getting third party in such a tight space. To avoid this, players have to keep their duels as short as possible, as the longer the fight lasts, the greater the chance of other enemies joining the fray. Players can avoid looting and recover their health while taking a safe position. Having Port-a-Bunkers can also be very valuable. These allow you to create your own cover in an area where other enemies have already taken the good covered spots.

Ultimately, the age-old trick of positioning yourself on the edge of the storm remains one of the most effective ways to limit the angles from which you can be attacked. This strategy is even more viable in these rectangular storm zones, as corners allow you to shield your back and one of your sides simultaneously.

While these edges and corners often become the most chaotic and contested parts of the map, the defensive benefit of only having to worry about a narrow field of vision far outweighs the risks of being in the center and exposed to a full 360-degree radius of threats.
