For old-school players, the quest to find King Scoober remains one of the most nostalgic parts of ‘Dragon Quest 7.‘ ‘Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined‘ also features the side quest to find the underwater ruler who lives on the ocean floor southeast of Pilchard Bay. Finding him lets you get the Gold Fragment reward, and it can also be used to access post-game content.
But there is also a slight catch: this quest is only available later in the story. That’s because unless you have all four elemental spirits, you cannot visit King Scoober. Thus, you can’t trigger the quest at the start and might have to wait for the main campaign to conclude before you can.
How To Start The Quest In ‘Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined’?

The first step is heading to Coral Cave in the present day. Once there, you need to make your way down to the basement level 1. There, you will get to meet a large Merman who will be guarding the area, carrying a spear. You will be able to talk to him as he tells you that their wish is to look more like a normal sea animal.
To grant that wish, he will ask you to visit King Scoober, who can help with that transformation. This sets the quest in motion. Without speaking to this NPC first, sailing to King Scoober’s Domain will not advance the questline properly.

Make sure to exhaust all dialogue with the creature before leaving. The quest will not progress if the conversation is cut short.
How To Travel To King Scoober’s Domain?

With the request in hand, fast-travel to Pilchard Bay on Estard Island. Board your ship and sail southeast from the island. A whirlpool will be visible in the water nearby. Sail directly into it to enter King Scoober’s Domain.
This is where many players get stuck. Whirlpools in ‘Dragon Quest‘ games are usually hazards to avoid, so steering into one feels counterintuitive. But in this case, the whirlpool is the only entrance to the underwater domain. The Skystone cannot be used to reach this area, so a ship is required.
Once inside, speak with King Scoober. Players need to talk to him twice. The first conversation covers other matters, and leaving after that exchange means missing the actual quest trigger. In the second conversation, mention the creature from Coral Cave, and Scoober will agree to help with the transformation.
There is also a Mini Medal hidden in a barrel underground within King Scoober’s Domain, so it is worth exploring before heading back.
Return to Coral Cave For Your Reward

After King Scoober agrees to assist, head back to Coral Cave Basement Level 1 in the present. Speak with the merman-like creature again and deliver the good news. The NPC will be overjoyed at the prospect of finally being transformed.
As thanks, the creature hands over a Gold Fragment before departing. This is one of eight Gold Fragments scattered throughout the game. Collecting all eight grants access to Yet Another World, a challenging post-game area that sits beyond Another World.

Another World itself requires gathering all of the game’s Silver Fragments first. While neither post-game zone is mandatory, they offer some of the toughest encounters in Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined and are well worth the effort for completionists chasing the Platinum Trophy or full Achievement list.
