Rockstar has barely said anything official about ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ outside of what the trailers have shown. The game is set in a fictional version of Florida with players taking on the roles of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and it is scheduled for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. But beyond that, most of what fans know has come through leaks.
A new one from the “GTA 6 Countdown” account on X is getting a lot of attention because of what it claims about NPC dialogue. The leak says the game will have “hundreds of thousands of recorded lines” just for non-player characters and that Rockstar has gone deep on how and when those lines get triggered.
Leak Claims NPC Reactions Will Change Based On What They See And Hear

The information reportedly comes from someone who worked on audio regression and subtitles validation at Rockstar. According to this person, NPCs in ‘GTA 6’ will not just have a set pool of generic lines.
Their tone will change depending on the time of day and whether they actually witnessed a crime or only heard about it. The weather is a factor, too. NPCs will reportedly react differently if something happens during rain compared to a clear day, and they will get more agitated during heat waves in the fictional Sunshine State.
Voice actors are said to be recording multiple takes of the same lines with different inflections so the game can match the delivery to what is happening on screen. Some of those takes will sound close to each other, but the small differences are supposed to make repeated interactions feel less robotic.

Rockstar is also trying to make sure the same dialogue does not come up twice, even when players stay in one area for a long time. The GTA 6 Countdown account noted that none of this is confirmed, but pointed to ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ as proof that Rockstar has already done something like this before, just not at this size.
This Might Explain The Reported $3 Billion Budget For ‘GTA 6’

If the leak is real, then this kind of voice work alone would eat up a massive chunk of the game’s budget. ‘GTA 6’ is rumored to have cost around $3 billion, which would make it the most expensive game ever made by a wide margin.
Dedicating that many resources just to NPC dialogue would start to explain where the money went, especially when you factor in that voice actors are doing multiple versions of every line and the game has to sort through them in real time based on what the player is doing.
It is also worth remembering that it has been over 13 years since ‘GTA 5’ came out. Anything less than a massive jump in quality is going to disappoint people after a wait that long. There have been a lot of leaks and rumors about ‘GTA 6’ features over the past year, and there is no way to verify any of them until Rockstar decides to talk.

But if the company really is going this hard on something as granular as NPC voice lines, then the rest of the game should be at least as detailed. Fans will find out soon enough, with the November release date getting closer by the week.
