Fortnite Reportedly Introducing First-Person Team Deathmatch Mode With Classes And Custom Weapons

A pair of ‘Fortnite‘ leakers have claimed that Epic is working on a first-person TDM mode where two teams of six fight using classes and mode-exclusive weapons. None of the weapons from this mode would be usable anywhere else in the game, and if the leak turns out to be real, then it would be a first for ‘Fortnite.’

Fortnite‘ Chapter 7 Season 2 already has a lot going on between the V-Bucks price hike backlash, the ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters‘ skins, and the ‘Resident Evil Requiem ‘collab and ‘Game of Thrones‘ characters dropping in. But a dedicated first-person TDM mode is drawing a lot of eyes right now because Fortnite has never had anything like it.

First-Person TDM Would Feature Eight Playable Classes On A Brand New Map

Prominent leakers Loolo_WRLD and Egyptian_Leaker said the mode is being referred to as “First-Person TDM” inside Epic. Two teams of six would pick from a roster of eight classes and then fight on a map that was built for this mode only.

According to the leaks, the eight classes are Assault, Infantry, Rush, Close Encounters, Breacher, Cowboy, Ranger, and Suppressive, and there is also supposed to be a mini-map with radar built into the mode.

One of the weapons that was leaked is a sword that apparently blocks incoming attacks, which is not something ‘Fortnite‘ has ever had before. Anyone who plays ‘Overwatch‘ or ‘Valorant‘ will see what Epic is going for here. Fortnite has had a first-person camera toggle in BR for a while now, but it was always optional, and nobody was forced into it.

This would be an entire mode where first-person is the only option, and every class has a specific job, and the team actually has to play around each other. The game has been third-person since it launched in 2017, and if these leaks are real, then Epic is clearly trying to pull in the hero shooter audience, which would be a huge shift for them.

The Biggest Concern From Fans Is That Epic Could Not Keep ‘Fortnite Ballistic’ Alive

Overwatch‘ and ‘Valorant‘ players seem interested in the idea, but the ‘Fortnite‘ community is not happy about it, and most of the frustration ties back to ‘Fortnite Ballistic.‘ Ballistic was a tactical FPS mode that went into early access back in late 2024, and Epic positioned it as their answer to ‘Valorant‘ and ‘Counter-Strike.’

But Epic barely updated it after launch, and the players who were actually grinding Ballistic felt like the mode was abandoned. Complaints about it were everywhere on Reddit for months.

With this TDM leak coming out now those same players want to know if Ballistic is getting replaced or just forgotten about. If Epic could not maintain one FPS mode then there is no reason to believe they will do better with a second one.

Ballistic and TDM would not play the same way, though, because Ballistic had round-based gameplay with no respawns while TDM is supposed to be faster with respawns and class abilities mixed in. Both could exist in Fortnite at the same time if Epic actually commits to updating them, but that is a big ask considering how Ballistic was handled.

None of this has been confirmed by Epic Games yet. Loolo_WRLD and Egyptian_Leaker have gotten Fortnite leaks right in the past, but until Epic puts out an official statement, it is all still a rumor.
