Indie Dev Admits Viral GTA 6 Leak Was Completely Fake After Spending Months Recreating Vice City From Scratch

The person behind a ‘GTA 6’ leak that went viral earlier this month has come out and admitted the whole thing was fabricated. The clip showed a bridge in Vice City with cars driving over it, and the guy who posted it on Instagram said it had been sent to him by a developer weeks before the 2022 breach. It did not look like much, which is exactly why so many people believed it.

Turns out he built the entire thing from scratch. He posted on Reddit explaining that he spent months recreating a piece of Miami, rebuilding the UI, and doing post-processing work to make it look real. He also put out a YouTube video breaking down how he did it.

The Creator Said He Wanted To See If He Could Actually Build A Believable ‘GTA 6’ Scene

In his Reddit post the creator said his goal was to see if he could recreate something that looked like it came from Rockstar. He wrote, “I spent months rebuilding a specific fragment of Miami, recreating the UI and spending way too many hours on the post-processing to make it look authentic. I even scrapped my first few versions because they just didn’t feel right.”

He reasoned the clip was so convincing because it was boring. There was nothing exciting about a bridge with some cars on it, and that made it feel like actual leaked development footage instead of something someone put together to get clicks.

In the breakdown video, he said part of the reason he did it was to give the community something to talk about. ‘GTA 6’ has been delayed twice now. Rockstar originally said Fall 2025, then pushed it to May 26, 2026, and then pushed it again to November 19, 2026.

People have had almost nothing to go on for months. No new trailer, barely any official updates. Some fans were suspicious of the clip, but most people bought it because it looked like the 2022 leak footage that is still floating around online.

‘GTA 6’ Marketing Is Set To Start This Summer And Trailer 3 Could Finally Be Coming In The Next Few Months

The original 2022 leak is still one of the biggest security breaches in gaming. A teenager from the UK who had already hacked into Uber and NVIDIA got into Rockstar’s Slack channels and pulled around 90 videos of the game while it was still early in development.

Rockstar tried to scrub everything off the internet, but a lot of that footage is still out there. That is why the fake clip worked. People are used to seeing ‘GTA 6’ content that was never supposed to be public, so another random clip showing up did not seem weird.

As of now November 19, 2026 is the release date and both Rockstar and Take-Two seem locked in on it. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that marketing will start over the summer which is not something studio heads normally announce ahead of time.

That means Trailer 3 could drop in the next few months along with screenshots and more details about the game. Pre-orders still have not gone live and nobody knows the price yet either.
