The popular extraction shooter ‘ARC Raiders‘ has found itself at the center of a major privacy controversy after players discovered that the game’s Discord integration was logging and storing private direct messages locally on users’ computers. This has sparked a massive outrage among several gaming communities across the globe, raising serious questions about the security of our data.
Data privacy is a major topic in this world of technology. Lives can be ruined if personal data falls into the wrong hands. The entire mishap has stirred a massive controversy among the gaming community, with questions being aimed towards the developers of the game, Embark Studios.
How Does ‘ARC Raiders’ Get Access To Private DM’s?

A computer engineer named Timothy D.Meadows first identified the problem. He discovered that the game’s Discord integration was storing private messages in local log files. D.Meadows noticed that whenever a player logs into the game, its anti-cheat system integrates with Discord for verification purposes.

But the actual problem starts when the integration system starts creating local log files containing complete transcripts of the user’s private Discord conversations, including DM’s and other personal data. To make things even worse, the files also include a Discord bearer authentication token, which can be easily used to access the user’s account.
Embark Studious Finally Breaks The Silence On The Controversy

Embark Studious didn’t waste much time coming up with a response to the entire mishap after it went public. Embark wrote in a message to players on the ‘ARC Raiders‘ Discord server, assuring them that their data was not transferred outside their respective machines and that such a mishap will never happen again.
Embark Studious stated, “The team is also working on a hotfix to address an issue where the Discord SDK logged excessive user information. Rest assured that your private and/or personal data was not sent outside your machine, and Embark has not (and will not) review or keep such information. We will disable the Discord SDK logging and are conducting a deeper audit to ensure no further issues.”
