The County of Los Angeles filed a civil lawsuit against ‘Roblox‘ on February 19, 2026, accusing the gaming platform of failing to protect children from predatory behavior. The suit alleges that ‘Roblox‘ markets itself as a safe space for creativity while operating as an unsafe environment where predators can freely target minors.
County Counsel Dawyn R. Harrison filed the lawsuit on behalf of the People of the State of California. It is the first case of its kind brought by a California government entity against ‘Roblox.‘ The complaint was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law.
What Does The Lawsuit Allege Against ‘Roblox’?

The core accusation is that ‘Roblox‘ has not implemented adequate safety features to prevent child endangerment. The lawsuit claims that children in LA County have been repeatedly exposed to sexually explicit content, grooming, and exploitation on the platform due to weak moderation and ineffective age verification.
Harrison described the situation in stark terms during the announcement. He stated that Roblox gives predators powerful tools to prey on children and that the resulting trauma ranges from grooming to exploitation to actual assault.

LA County Board Chair Hilda L. Solis echoed these concerns, calling on the company to implement real safeguards. The complaint also highlights how easily adults can pose as minors on the platform.
Assistant County Counsel Scott Kuhn noted that anyone can sign up, claim to be 12 years old, and begin interacting with children immediately. The lawsuit points to a specific case involving a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly lured by a predator posing as a teenager.
How Big Is Roblox’s Young User Base?

‘Roblox‘ reported over 151 million daily active users and more than 380 million monthly users as of late October 2025. Over 40 percent of those users are under the age of 13. The company’s own surveys indicate that nearly 75 percent of all U.S. children between the ages of 9 and 12 play ‘Roblox‘ regularly.
These numbers make ‘Roblox‘ one of the largest children’s gaming platforms in the world. The lawsuit argues that this massive young audience makes the alleged safety failures even more dangerous. LA County also claims it has had to divert taxpayer resources toward law enforcement, child protective services, and mental health counseling as a direct result.
Roblox Responds To The Lawsuit

‘Roblox‘ has denied the allegations and stated it will defend itself vigorously. The company said its platform is built with safety at its core and that it continues to evolve its protections. As of January 2026, ‘Roblox‘ requires all users to complete a facial age check to access chat features and sorts players into age groups.
The company also noted that users cannot send or receive images through chat. ‘Roblox‘ encouraged parents to visit its Safety Center for information on keeping children safe online. However, county officials maintain that these measures are insufficient.

This lawsuit joins a growing wave of similar legal actions against ‘Roblox.‘ The platform currently faces lawsuits in Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and Kentucky. Dozens of federal cases alleging child exploitation have also been consolidated into a single proceeding in the Northern District of California.
The LA County case seeks injunctive relief, abatement, and civil penalties of up to $2,500 per day for each violation.
