Fortnite Chapter 7: How To Counter Lock-On AR?

The Lock-On AR has become a menace in ‘Fortnite‘ Chapter 7 Season 1. Even though this weapon is mediocre in close duels, it excels at ambushing. Players have been either punishing or getting punished heavily by this weapon in every match.

It is quite hard to escape from this weapon unlessyou break the line-of-sight. If you panic just seeing the lock-on indicator, then you have already lost against Lock-On AR. You have to understand the mechanics of this AR to fight back against the enemies.

The whole premise of using Lock-On AR efficiently and effectively is ambushing players without revealing your location from long range. Because it doesn’t require precise aim, a player can keep you in their sights while you struggle to locate them.

When an enemy locks onto you, you will see a diamond icon appear above your head. Immediately look for a bright orange “sniper glint” on your screen. If you don’t see the glint, then the enemy is likely behind you or to your side. As soon as you see a lock-on warning, try to take cover to break the line-of-sight and break the lock.

Furthermore, since the Lock-On AR punishes players caught in the open, you have to position more wisely and make smart loadout choices as your primary defense. Players can try to play around the edges of the storm. This limits the number of angles you are exposed to, as it is highly unlikely that an enemy target you while being in the storm.

Additionally, equip yourself with mobility items such as Shockwave Grenades. These will help you evade easily if you are caught in crossfire in an open-area. You can keep them equipped in hand while moving, as this allows you to react instantly without fumbling through your inventory while under pressure. To use Shockwaves effectively, try to shockwave toward cover to break being locked on.

Other than using basic movement to counter Lock-On AR, players can use certain items and vehicles to combat the “aimbot” rifle. Players can use protective items like Shield Bubbles or Port-a-Bunkers, which can be said to be the only true direct counters to the Lock-On AR. These are great to instantly save yourself from getting punished by the weapon.

Cars are another good option. Lock-On AR has low damage and takes longer to destroy vehicles. Furthermore, entering a car often breaks the line of sight.

Once you evade the initial lock by breaking the line-of-sight, you can easily scout out where the enemy is locking on. Once you spot the enemy, you can easily strategise your moves to tackle them. The Lock-On AR is arguably one of the worst weapons in the game when it comes to standard shootouts due to its low damage and low fire-rate.

Most players who rely heavily on the lock-on mechanic are looking for easy, opportunistic eliminations. You can easily put pressure on such players by taking close-range duels. Use your cover to heal, identify their position, and then push aggressively to get them out of the match before they can ambush you again.
