‘Fortnite‘ Chapter 7 season 1 has been feeling like a drag for quite some time, and players are eagerly waiting for season 2. Recently, ‘Fortnite‘ Design Director Ted Timmins revealed some details about what players can expect from the upcoming Season 2.
He posted on X that they are playtesting season 2 and replied to some players commenting on what they want. According to the details, developers are planning one of the most significant overhauls with an entirely refreshed weapon pool.
‘Fortnite’ Chapter 7 Season 2 Will Shake Up Gameplay Big Time

Devs are bringing some major changes to the movement mechanics in Fortnite. Timmins teased that players might see some new mobility items, specifically hinting at items that allow an entire squad to rotate together. He didn’t give many details about this, but made it clear that these items would be more reliable for team coordination and negate the chaotic nature of Shockwave Grenades.
Speaking of Shockwave Grenades, Timmins hinted at vaulting the iconic grenade. They will be encouraging specialized movement items to mix things up. Players can also see a melee-traversal hybrid item after Timmins confirmed a new melee item is coming to the game, which will balance combat with high-speed map traversal.

Furthermore, one of the biggest criticisms of Chapter 7 Season 1 has been its simplicity. Many players labelled this season basic, and Timmins addressed this directly. He promised that Season 2 would bring back the level of complexity seen in Chapter 6. This may include mid-game objectives and “locked” secret locations that require players to solve puzzles or defeat specific guards to access high-tier loot.
They are aiming to fix the pacing of the game, especially the mid-phases, where it feels very slow. Timmins also mentioned that there are many more “secrets” coming in this chapter that haven’t been teased yet.
Wacky And Goofy Gameplay Will Return In ‘Fortnite’ Chapter 7 Season 2

Timmins revealed that the devs are bringing back more chaotic energy to the game that made it popular in the first place. He specifically mentioned that a few upcoming items made the design team “laugh out loud” during testing. These changes suggest that the game is finally moving from the grounded, tactical feel of recent seasons.

In addition, one of the debatable features, surfingmatch intro, might also leave next season. Timmins hinted at a new way for players jump on the island, jokingly questioning “who the bus driver will be” in the next update.
Finally, the studio is looking at how content is rolled out. Addressing concerns that recent seasons have been “front-loaded” with content only to go stale later, Timmins hopes Season 2 will feel like a step in the right direction for consistent updates. With Season 2 scheduled to launch around March 19, 2026, the community is bracing for what looks to be a total reinvention of the Fortnite experience.
