Call Of Duty Officially Denies Standalone Zombies Game Rumors

Call of Duty‘ has officially put an end to the rumors of a standalone Zombies game in the franchise. For the past few days, rumors have been going around that players are reportedly getting a dedicated game after begging for quite a while, and now it seems like they will have to wait much longer.

However, on February 23, 2026, the official Call of Duty team finally addressed the long-standing rumors around the entry. Zombies have been part of the ‘COD’ franchise for quite a long time, but only in game modes.

The rumor started after the prominent leaker TheGhostOfHope claimed that Microsoft is working on a “Zombies/DMZ” standalone project. He revealed that this title would release along with the ‘Modern Warfare 4‘ in 2026 to boost the next-gen Xbox launch and compete with this year’s centre of attraction, ‘GTA 6.‘ The community quickly started discussing the news and pointed out that a standalone game would solve many of the Zombie mode’s current issues.

Many people pick on this and report the claim as the leaker has a reputation for providing concrete leaks. Dexerto, the popular entertainment website, also reported this and posted it on X. ‘Call of Duty‘ social team quickly reacted to this news and commented, “The rumor factory working overtime. This ain’t it.”

With Activision squashing these rumors, it seems like fighting Zombies will remain a sub-mode for a while. However, despite COD denying the rumors, TheGhostOfHope stood by their report. He claimed that the PR denial is just a tactic to keep the community guessing until a formal reveal.

Furthermore, things get more depressing for the fans who love zombie mode. According to new leaks, 2027 ‘Call of Duty,’ reportedly a brand-new subseries being developed by Sledgehammer Games, suggest will be completely ditching Zombies.

Insider claimed that Sledgehammer is going for a “grounded, tactical vibe” set in the late 90s or early 2000s. This will be the first title in years to leave out zombie mode. Reportedly, the parkour game made “Get High” return with entry.

Despite all this, the hype for ‘Modern Warfare 4‘ is increasing day by day. Infinity Ward has reportedly been working on this title for more than four years. However, many insiders described it as “a complete copy” of ‘Modern Warfare 2.’

To such claims, Infinity Ward told fans, “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” They confirmed that they will see fans in 2026. Additionally, it is still unknown if ‘MW4‘ will feature its own version of Zombies or if the mode is being sidelined entirely across all upcoming titles.
