MrBeast Apologizes for Beast Games Episode 9 Cliffhanger as Social Media Backlash Mounts

Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson is currently under fire thanks to his ‘Beast Games‘ Season 2 Episode 9 ending. After a season filled with abrupt endings, the latest cliffhanger, which cut off right before the final six players were revealed, has sparked backlash on social media. Later, MrBeast himself had to step in and apologize for the episode’s ending.

While a cliffhanger adds a flavour and excitement for the next episode, fans argued that using it in the final leg of a $5 million competition is kind of unnecessary and exhausting. With the finale just days away, MrBeast has confirmed that Season 3 will move away from the “to be continued” formula.

In the penultimate episode of Season 2, the remaining 10 players were pushed into a high-stakes round of bribery and persuasion to secure a spot in the finale. The tension was already high as the first five finalists were locked in, but the screen went black just seconds before the sixth and final name was called.

Fans immediately slammed this on social media, as they were already fully invested in the show. YouTuber AdamAsta voiced the collective frustration on X, suggesting that cliffhangers in the final quarter of a season take away from the experience rather than building hype. MrBeast replied under his post and said, “I’M SORRY LESS CLIFFHANGERS IN SEASON 3 I SWEAR.”

This isn’t the first time Jimmy has addressed the “cliffhanger” issue. During a recent Reddit AMA, he admitted that while the data might support cliffhangers for retention, he understands the “binge-watch” incentive they create annoys viewers. In addition to fixing the pacing, he also stated that ‘Beast Games‘ Season 3 is going international.

Casting is reportedly already underway, and this time, MrBeast is looking for a diverse roster that “embodies the spirit of their country.” When asked about an international edition, Jimmy hinted that the next season would be a global affair, moving away from the primarily US-based contestant pools of the first two seasons.
