Nioh 3: How To Enter the Enemy Base In Hamamatsu Hill?

The majority of enemy strongholds in ‘Nioh 3‘ are relatively easy to gain access to. However, one that sits on Hamamatsu Hill next to Mikatagahara Junction is not. Not only is there no other way to access this enemy stronghold, but the front door is locked. You will search the surrounding beetle-infested area and find nothing.

This enemy stronghold relates to a small quest through Ii Naotora, and if you do not follow the questline and complete it in the correct order, this enemy stronghold’s front gate will not open. Many people believe that there is a key near the stronghold that allows access to it. However, the actual key does not appear until you complete a different area and collect it much later.

The Mountain Temple Key is required to gain access to unlock the enemy base located in Mikatagahara Junction. It can only be acquired after completing select side content.

To obtain the Mountain Temple Key, first travel north to the Iinoya region and find the Ryotan Temple. At the entrance of the temple, you’ll meet Ii Naotora, who will provide the quest called Fated Land. The quest is linear, but there are many yokai encounters and shortcuts, ladders, and bridges within the temple grounds. You will also have the assistance of Naotora to help defeat enemies while completing the quest.

Once you have completed Fated Land and defeated the boss, speak with Naotora to finish the mission. After that, fast travel to Hamamatsu Castle Keep and talk to Naotora again, and this will begin another quest called Ii’s Memento. Upon completion of Ii’s Memento, you will receive the Mountain Temple Key.

Fast travel back to the Mikatagahara Junction shrine, head northeast through the bridge, and unlock the enemy base door with the Mountain Temple Key.

Inside the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base you will be confronted by a total of 5 different yokai; most are skeletons hiding amongst corpses and in corners. Move slowly through the area, loot all items nearby to reveal these lurking enemies as you fight them.

Once you defeat all of the skeleton yokai, you can go ahead and go toward the Spider Lily patch located near the centre of the area; doing so triggers the appearance of a Ninja Yokai, and this is your last yokai encounter in the base.

After defeating all of the yokai, go to the Pagoda in the back of the Grounds; you will then face off against a Samurai Revenant. You can keep this fight simple by being patient and not overcommitting yourself. Ki Damage, repositioning, and the use of Ninjutsu will all work well against his style of play, where he keeps you at bay.

Once you finish the base, meet Ii Naotora back at Hamamatsu Castle Keep to finish Ii’s Memento and gain full control of the area.
