The game was originally announced back in 2016 and had amassed over $3.25 million through crowdfunding. Thanks to the crowdfunding and investment from CEO Steven Sharif himself, the project moved to development in 2017.

It was launched into Steam Early Access on December 11, 2025. The game had some underwhelming reviews; however, many were optimistic as it was just in its initial stages and had big roadmap.

But ‘Ashes of Creation‘ was due to see its downfall occur. On January 31, 2026, Interpid’s director of communication revealed her time with the company had “officially ended.” Soon later, Sharif shared the news of mass layoffs, claimed “control of the company” shifted away from him, and announced his resignation.

Control of the company shifted away from me, and the Board began directing actions that I could not ethically agree with or carry out. As a result, I chose to resign in protest rather than lend my name or authority to decisions I could not ethically support,” said Sharif.

As the fire is rampantly spreading across the gaming community, players who bought the ‘Ashes Of Creations’ early access are now issueing for refund. Steam has a strict “two-hour playtime” limit for refunds; however, the game shutting down in early access has led Valve to reconsider its policies.

Players on Reddit and Steam forums have revealed that their refunds are being denied by the automated bot. However, many have claimed that they have claimed the refund through manual support tickets by selecting the “I have a question about this purchase” option. Players, even with about 30 hours of playtime, have gotten a refund.
